In the name of God Amen: The seavententh
day of February in yeare of oure Lord god one Thousand sixe hundred nyne I Raphe White of
Asheford within the parishe of Bakewell and County of Derbie yeoman the unprofitable servante
of god weake in bodye but stronge in mynde doe willinglye with a free hande render and geve againe
into the handes of my Lorde god and Creator my Spiritte where of his fatherlye goodnes gave unto me when
he firste fashioned me in my mothers wombe making me a livinge and a reasonable Creature nothinge
doubtinge but that for his infinite mercies sett forth in the precious blood of his dearlye beloved sonne Jesus
Christe oure only Saviour and Redeemer he will receive my Soule into his glorie and place it in the
company of the heavenly Angells and Blessed Saints And as concerninge my body even with a good
will and free harte I give it over comendinge it to the Earth whereof it came to be buried within
the Parishe Church of Bakewell or where my Executors shall thinke best nothinge doubtinge but
according to the Article of my faithe at the greate daye of the generall Resurreccon when wee shall
appeare before the Judgement Seate of god I shall receive the same agayne by the mighty power
of god wherewith he is able to subdue all things unto himself not a corruptable mortal weake &
vile bodye (as it is nowe) but an icorruptable immortal stronge and perfect bodye and in all points
like unto the glorious bodye of our Lorde and Savioure Jesus Christ. And my worldlye goods I
leave to the world as followeth. Firste as touching my Children albeit I am fully persuaded that
God (accordinge to his promise) wilbe a Father unto them (if they live in his feare) he will not see
them lacke yett sure the hand of god and nature requireth that I should have a reasonable care for
them therefore my mynde will and intente is that whereas I have given unto Francis White my
eldest sonne all my lands in Monyash by a deede And if it be not done throughlye and effectically
as to be found good in lawe I do by this my last will and Testament geve it to him and his heires
forever to confirme the same deeds Also I give unto him one longe Bourde in the Parlour and a
payre of Bedstocks in the Parlour and one Boorde in the hall and one Presse or Cupboard standinge
in the Parloure and an other Presse standing in the same Parlour by it The greatest Pann with
the disheboard One bason with an Ewer And my mynde is that these soe remayne as heyreloomes from
me unto him and soe to remayne from heyre to heire. Item I give unto my sonne Thomas Threescore
pounds of lawfull monye of England Alsoe I give unto him one cupboard standinge in the little
Butterie at Monyashe And I give unto him the best Pann next unto that that Franncys hathe
And I give unto him one Pewter [P]oyder Item whereas I have given my sonne Nicholas all my
landes in Chelmorton and if the same be not confirmed and done througlye and lawfully I do nowe
by this my last will and testament give it unto him and his heires forever to confirme the said deede
Item I give unto him all suche wooden stuffe as were myne which I had from Robert Dakin remayning in the
same house Item I give unto my sayde sonne Nicholas the best pann next unto that which I gave Thomas
and the greatest Pewter dishe next unto that which I gave unto my unto my said sonne Thomas Item I give
unto my sonne Godfrey Fowerscore pounds and one Bourde in the Parlour at my house in Asheford
and one bourde in the hall & one board in the Butterie and the Tressells and Fowermes in the kitchin
and fowermes to the three Bourdes before named Item I give alsoe unto him one payer of Bedstocks in
the Parlour and one payer of Bedstocks in [B.....] Chamber Item I give unto my sonne Raphe one
hundreth poundes Item I give unto him twoe payer of Bedstocks one payer within my sonne Thomas Chamber

will is that if my Sonne in law Anthony Longsdon do paye or cause to be payde unto me or myne
Executors all such money as he oweth unto me then my mynde is that Marye my daughter shall have
Tenn pounds orels not any more than that he oweth me. Item I give to everie one of my Sonnes a
Featherbedd with a Bolester and he that hathe the worste Featherbedd to have allowance of my executors
in moneye to buye him a good [Ticke] withall Or if there be not soe manye as everie one to have one my
will is that Thomas my sonne to have Fortie shillings to buye him one withall. Item I give to the churche
of Asheford Twenty sixe shillings and eight pence to be putte to the bast use to maynteyne divine service
Item I give to everie one of my servints that shalbe in my house and service at the tyme of my deceasse
Five shillings Item I give unto my sonne Raphe the Leasse of a parcell of land which I tooke of Thomas
Brettnor called the Banke lyinge opposite Laurence Cheynyes house duringe the term of the said
Leasse. Item I give and bequeathe all the rest of my goods whatsoever is unbequeathed after my mor-
tuarie funerall expences and my debpts payde to be equally devided amongste all my foresaid children
Item I constitute make & ordaine Nicholas White & Raphe White my trewe and lawfull Executors
trustinge they will accomplishe this my last will and testament And for the one execucon hereof I
doe constitute and make George Heyward of Asheford and Edward Heyward of Sheldon my
Brother in Lawe and Thomas Heyward of Ashford aforesaid my Overseers to see this same executed

this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following
that is to say, First I will that all my just Debts the Legacy
hereinafter by me given and bequested my Funeral Expenses
the charges of proving and all other charges attending the execution

parcels of land called Thurstone Crofts shall go to and be
equally divided between and amongst all and every her
child or children which shall be living at the time of her
death share and share alike to take as Tenants in common

the same estate and every part thereof to them and their
heirs forever accordingly. Also I Give and Bequeath
unto my niece Sarah Webster the sum of one hundred
pounds Sterling to be paid by my Executor and
Executrix hereinafter named within a twelvemonth after
my decease by and out of my personal Estate. All the rest
residue and remainder of my personal Estate whatsoever
and wheresoever or of what nature or kind soever I Give
and Bequeath unto my Nephews and niece Matthew
Sarah Francis and James Webster in equal
proportions share and share alike. And lastly I do

of Derby yeoman being weak of Body but of sound and perfect mind & memory, do make & ordain this my last
Will and Testament in manner and form following. First My Will is that all my just Debts funeral
charges & the expense of proving this my last will be paid by my Executor & Executrix out of my personal Estate
I give to my son Thomas the use of my lands lying with the Libery of Tideswell known by the name of Wayfurlong
during his natural life on condition that he pays to my wife Five Pounds a year of lawful money by two equal
payments out of the profits of the said land during her natural life if he survives her; and after the decease of my
said son Thomas I give & devise the aforesaid land to be equally divided amongst his four daughters Alice, Ann,
Sarah & Elizabeth each to have an equal share to them their heirs and assigns for ever paying to my wife Five
Pounds a year, each an equal share thereof as before expressed if she be living after they come into possession of the
said land and if one or more of them happens to die before they are in possession of the said land, it is my will that her
or their share or shares shall go to the survivor or survivors. And it is my desire that my said son Thomas may have
the tenantright of my farm lying at Priestcliffe which I now rent under Mr Bossley, which favour I hope Mr Bossley
will not refuse. I also give to Elizabeth the Daughter of my said son Thomas Twenty Pounds of Lawful Money
to be paid her by my son Henry out of my Personal Estate when she arrives at the age of Twenty One Years,
if she be living at that time. I also give to my son Henry the use of my land at Blasley consisting of four
Enclosures lying within the Liberty of Priestcliffe until his son Michael arrives at the age of Twenty One
Years on condition that he pays to my wife Five Pounds a year of lawful money by two equal payments
out of the profits of the said land until his son Michael is Twenty One Years of age, if she lives so long and
when Michael the son of my said son Henry is Twenty One Years of age I give and devise the said lands
at Blasley with all their appurtenances to him his heirs & assigns for ever, paying to my wife Five Pounds
a year out of the profits of the said Lands as before expressed, if she be then living during the remainder of her
natural life. I give and devise to my son Henry Two enclosed pieces of land known by the name of Water
Less Close lying within the liberty of Taddington with all their appurtenances to him his heirs & assigns
for ever. I also give to my said son Henry all my Cattle & all my living stock of Goods whatsoever, paying
to my Wife Fifty Pounds of lawful Money out of the said Stock, Twelve Months next after my decease.
And if she happen to die before the said Fifty Pounds becomes due it is my will that she may dispose of
the said Money amongst our Children as she shall think proper & I order and direct my son Henry to pay the said
Money (if she dies before it becomes due according to her will. I also give to my son Henry the Tenantright
of that land lying within the Liberty of Taddington which I now rent under Benjamin Bland. It is my will
and order that my son James shall pay all the arrears of rent after the sale of Twenty three pounds a year in
lawful Money that is due for the land he now rents under me at Cowdale to my Wife at my decease. And it
is my will and order that my son James shall pay to my wife Twenty Three pounds a year of lawful money by
two equal payments on the Tenth day of October & the fifth day of April yearly, as rent for that Estate at Cowdale
aforesaid during her natural life. I give and devise to my son James all my real Estate at Cowdale aforesaid
with all its appurtenances, to him his heirs and assigns for ever, to enter on the said Estate One year
after my Wife's decease & paying rent for the same before that time as before expressed. I give the estate at
Cowdale aforesaid to my son James on the following conditions; that he pays Twenty Three Pounds of lawful money
to my son Henry as rent for the same one year next after my wife;s decease; and also that he pays to my
Son Henry Three Hundred and Fifty Pounds of lawful money out of the said Land, Twelve months next
after my wife's decease; But if my said Son James does not pay to my son Henry Three Hundred & fifty Pounds
of lawful money Twelve Months next after my wife's decease & perform the other conditions concerning the rents etc of
the Estate at Cowdale aforesaid as before expressed then I give & devise the Estate at Cowdale with all its appurtenances
to my son Henry to him his Heirs and assigns for ever; in trust for him my said son Henry to sell it
and to pay my son James Three Hundred Pounds of Lawful Money out of the Moneys arising from the sale
thereof; and also to pay the other Legacies out of the said Money as is hereafter expressed as soon as can be
done after Twelve Months are expired after my wife's decease; if my son James does not perform the conditions
concerning the Estate at Cowdale as are before expressed I give to my son Michael Fifty Pounds to be paid as
follows; it is my Will and order that my son Henry shall lay out Five pounds every half year in Iron for the
use of my son Michael till the whole Fifty Pounds are paid, the first Five Pounds of which, is to be laid out
the first half year after one year is expired after my wife's decease & so on as before expressed till the whole Fifty
pounds are paid. I also give to my son William Fifty Pounds. I also give to my Daughter Mary Micock Fifty
Pounds. I also give to my daughter Alice Rowson Fifty Pounds. I also give to my daughter Ann Makinson
Fifty Pounds. The aforesaid Legacies to my son William & to my daughters Mary, Alice & Ann it is my Will
and order that they are paid in lawful money by my son Henry Twelve months next after my wife's decease
out of my Estate at Cowdale aforesaid & my son Michaels Fifty Pounds must be paid out of the said Land
I also give and devise to my Daughter Ann Makinson, one enclosed piece of land lying on the top of Priest-
cliffe Nether Lees and also Thirteen Sixteenths of a Beast Grass in Priestcliffe Nether Lees aforesaid to her,
her Heirs and Assigns for ever. I also give to my wife the bed where we now lie, with all the Cloaths thereunto
belonging, & what Houshold Goods she shall think proper. The remainder of my houshold Goods which my Wife
has not I give to my son Henry. If my Grandson Michael White the son of my said son Henry happens
to die before he is Twenty one years of age then I give and devise the Lands at Blasley aforesaid to
my son Henry to Him his Heirs and Assigns for ever. It is my desire that my son Henry may have
the tenantright of my farm which I now rent under his Grace the Duke of Devonshire lying at Brushfield which
favour I hope the Duke and his Stewards will not refuse. It is my will and order that if any of the Daughters
of my son Thomas either Alice, Ann, Sarah or Elizabeth happens to die without issue before they come into
[..... ...... .... ..... ...... ....... ....... .....long] mentioned in a former part of my Will that
their share or shares [...] go to the survivor or survivors, but if any one of my said son Thomas's Daughters
beforementioned shall die and leave any Issue I order and direct that the mother's share shall be equally
divided amongst such children; and if any of them leave but one one Child it shall have its mother's share
And lastly I do hereby appoint my wife to be Executrix, and my son Henry to be Executor
of this my last Will and Testament, and do hereby empower them to call in all my Debts and to pay
what I owe; In witness wheeof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this 21st day of January
in the year of our Lord 1789.
