William Platts, husbandman of Flagg, 1620/21
In the name of God Amen; the nynth day of
December in the yeare of our Lord God 1620. I William Platts of Flagge in the
County of Derby husbandsman sicke and deseased in body but sound and pfecte in
remembrance thanks be given to God therefore doe ordaine constitute and make
this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I comitt
my soule to Almighty God my Creator and to Jesus Christ my Redeemer by whose me-
ritts I trust to have eternall life and my bodie to be buried in the Chappell of
Chelmarton. Item I give and bequeathe all my lande messuages Ten{amen}ts houses
buildings Cottages with all and singuler their appurtenances whatsoever
situate lyinge and being in Taddington in the said Countie of Derby unto Richard
Sellers als Platts my sonne and to the heires of his body lawfully begotten
and for want of such issue to Willm Platts the younger my sonne and to the heirs
of his body lawfully begotten and for want of such issue to the right heirs
of me the said William Platts the Elder for ever. Item I give and bequeath
all my lande messuages and ten{amen}ts in Flagge Chelmarton and Litle Horsley what
soevever with all houses cottages barnes and buildings with all and singuler their
appurtenances in the said Countye of Derby unto William Platts the younger
my sonne aforenamed and to the heires of his body lawfully begotten and
for want of such issue to the said Richard Sellers als Platts my said sonne afore
named and to the right heirs of his body lawfully begotten and for want of
such issue to the right heirs of me the said Willm Platts the Father for ever. Item I give
and bequaeth to the said Richard Sellers als Platts my sonne thirty pounds
of good and lawfull money of England to be paide unto the said Richard or his
certaine [Attorney] his Executors administrators or assigns at [???? ????]
[call] [daies] of payment viz fifteen poundes in and uppon the feast daye of
St Michaell the Archangel nexte cominge after the daye of the death
and decease of mee the said Willm Platts the father, and other fifteen pounds
in and uppon the said feast daye of Saint Michael the Archangel then next
following without any further delay being the last [Qote] of the payment of the
said [?????] of xxx li Item I give and bequeath to the said Richard one bed at the sight
and discretion of my wife. Item I give and bequeath to Edmund Platts my
brother twelve pence Item I give and bequeath to Emma Sheene my sister
twelve pence. Item I give and bequeath to Grace Bagshall my sister twelve
pence Item I give and bequeath to Margarrett Sheldon my sister twelve
pence Item I give and bequeath to Henry Sheldon my brother in lawe twelve
pence Item I give and bequeath to Richard [Raworthe] twelve pence Item I
give and bequeath to Thomas Platts my brother twelve pence Item I give
and bequeath to everie one of my children twelve pence a peece Item I
give and bequeath to Elizabeth Barker the biggest heyfer that is at Horsley
Item I give and bequeath to Mary Platts my wife the third pte of all my goods
Cattells and Chattells whatsoever according to the Customs of the Countey
after that my debts legacies and funerall expenses beene first paid and dis-
charged out of my whole goods. item I give and bequeath to Margaret Platts
and Mary Platts my daughters all the rest of my goods Cattells and Chattels
quicke and dead moveable and unmoveable whatsoever before not bequeathed
equally to be divided between them them. Item it is my will and mind that Mary
my said wife shall have the education and bringing upp of my children with
their porcons during the tyme of their minoritie shee keepinge her person sole and unmarried
But if it shall happen that my said wife doe and shall marry again after my
decease then it is my [verry] will and mind that the said Richard my sonne shall
have the educacon and bringing upp of my said sonne Willm and Edmund
Platts my brother and Thomas Barker my brother in lawe shall have
the education and bringing upp of my three daughters and their prcons at
the sight and discretion of the said Richard my sonne Item I ordaine constitute
and make the said Mary Platts my wife the true and lawfull executrix
of this my last will and Testament trusting in god that she will performe
the same accordinge to the true intent and plaine meaning thereof these
beinge wittnesses Richard Buxton, George Sheene the younger
Ralph Heathcott, Edmund Platts Elder. The mark and seale of William
Platts thelder Item I give and bequaeth to George Sheene the younger
twelve pence Item I give and bequeath to Anthony Clayton twelve
pence Item I give and bequeath to Raphe Buxton twelve pence Item
I give and bequeath the towards the changing of the Communion Cup of
Chelmarton Chappell three shillings Item I give and bequeath to
Thomas Barker twelve pence Item I give and bequeath to John [Hurst]
twelve pence Item I give and bequeath to Anthony Platts six shillings
eight pence Item I give and bequeath to George Platts One [bushel?]
and a halfe of oatmeale to be paid three pecks at one tyme and three
pecks at another Item I give and bequeath to the three children of
Thomas Barker either of them a lambe at Midsummer Item furthermore
it is my verry will and mind that Mary my wife shall not take any thirde
out of those my lands in Taddington which I have given to my sonne Richard
Sellers als Platts by this my last will and testament but if she take
her thirde out of the said lande Contrary to the promise that she hath
made mee then it is my will and mind that the said Richard shall have
all that acre of land lyinge neere unto John Rott his house in Flagge
aforesaid soe longe as the said Marie doth hould the thirde of those
lands in Taddington aforenamed.
