John Ashmore
1778 - 1857
John was born in Monyash around the end of 1778, the son of William and Martha (1). He had two older brothers - William and Thomas; and two older sisters - Mary and Martha (2). A younger sister, Keziah, was born in 1780 (3), then Sarah in 1782 (4), and brother Samuel in 1785 (5). Twin brother Joseph and Benjamin were born in 1788 (6), but died in their infancy (7)(8), and his his youngest sister Rachel was born in 1790 (9), but she too died young, age 4 (10).
His mother died in 1799 (11)(12).
He married Elizabeth Needham of Elton at All Saints in Bakewell on 14th September 1802 (13), and they settled in Monyash. They had a son Thomas in 1805 (14), and a daughter Mary in 1808 (15). John worked initially as a weaver (14), but then farmed a small amount of land (18)(19).
His father died in 1822 (11)(16).
John was named in his brother Samuel's will in 1852 (20), but died before his brother, on 23rd November 1857 (21). He was buried in Monyash three days later (22). His wife lived for another couple of years, dying in early 1860 (23)(24).
Brief details of his children:
- Thomas has his own page.
- Mary was born in Monyash in 1808. She died there, still unmarried, in 1829.

This is undoubtably an error, and should read "Ashmore", as the burial of Martha is otherwise missing, and there are no other entries for anyone with the surname Ashman anywhere in the Monyash registers.
