Thomas Ashmore

Nothing of Thomas's early life is yet known.

He married Keziah Yates in Bakewell on 26th June 1732 . Its unclear whether both of them were from Monyash, or whether Thomas may have originated elsewhere ⁽¹⁾. Certainly they settled in Monyash after their marriage, as their eldest son Thomas was born there the following spring ⁽²⁾. Next they had two daughters - Mary in 1735 ⁽³⁾ and Margaret in 1738 ⁽⁴⁾. Their son William was born in 1741 ⁽⁵⁾, followed by Samuel in 1744 ⁽⁶⁾, but he died aged just two ⁽⁷⁾. Finally their youngest son John was born in 1747 ⁽⁸⁾. Its likely that they also had a daughter called Martha, but her date of birth is uknown ⁽¹¹⁾.

His wife Keziah died in 1766 ⁽⁹⁾. Thomas lived for another 11 years, dying in May 1777. He was buried at St Leonard's in Monyash ⁽¹⁰⁾.

With the exception of his sons Samuel (who died at 2) and William, none of his other children are ever mentioned again in the Monyash parish registers !

• Mary was born in Monyash in 1735. Nothing more is known of her.
• Margaret was born in Monyash in 1738. Nothing more is known of her.

• Samuel was born in Monyash in 1744. He died there in 1746.
• John was born in Monyash in 1747. Nothing more is known of him.
• Martha was probably born in Monyash around the 1740s. She had an illegitimate daughter Martha in 1769. Nothing more is known of her.
