1832 - 1905

George's signature at the time of his marriage in 1856 (8)
| Father | John Jackson |
| Mother | Sarah Bocking |
| Wife | Mary Gilbert |
| Children | Leonard, Clement, Martha Ann, Joseph, Mary Elizabeth, George, Sarah Jane, John, Charity Elizabeth, Delilah, Harry |
George was born in Little Hucklow in 1832 (1), the only son of John & Sarah. He had an older sister Ann, born the year before (1)(5), and a younger sister Elizabeth, born two years later (3)(5). His mother died around the time of his eigth birthday (4), and his father two years later (6). He went to live with his Uncle Thomas in Tideswell, and started work as a lead miner (7).
He married the already heavily pregant Mary Gilbert at St John the Baptist's in Tideswell on 21st April 1856 (8), and moved in with her parents (10). Their first son, Leonard, was born just 3 months later (9). followed by Clement, two years after that (9), then a daughter Martha Ann in December 1860 (9). All of their first three children were baptised at the same time, in January 1861 (9). His next son, Joseph, was born in 1863 (11), followed by a daughter Mary Elizabeth in 1865 (12).
His father in law died the following year (13), and George appears to have become head of the household (i.e. his mother is law was living in his house, rather than him living in his mother in law's (16)). His next son George was born in 1868 (14), then a daughter, Sarah Jane, in 1870 (15), and another son, John in 1874 (17).
Somewhere around this time George gave up lead mining, and became a labourer on the railway (18).
His daughter Mary Elizabeth died in 1876 (19). He had another one, Charity Elizabeth, in 1877 (20), but she only lived for just under a year, dying in April 1878 (21), followed later that year by his eldest son Leonard (22). His youngest daughter, Delilah, was born the following year (23), and then finally, his youngest son, Harry, was born in 1881 (25)(26) - by which time the family had moved to Town End (24).
George's wife, Mary, died in August 1886 (27), hence by the time of the 1891 census, George was living with just three of his children, Sarah Jane, John and Harry (28). By the time of the next census in 1901, all three had left home, but his youngest daughter, Delilah, had moved back in with her husband and baby (29).
George died on 12th March 1905 (30).
