Solomon Mycock

1674 - 1733

Solomon was born in Flagg around new year 1673/74 ⁽¹⁾, the second child of James Mycock. His older brother Samuel had been born about 18 months earlier. He was baptised in Chelmorton on 18th January 1674 ⁽¹⁾. His brother Matthew was born in the summer of 1676, his sister Sara in summer of 1678, and his brother Robert towards the end of 1682. He also had a sister Ruth but her date of birth is unknown, although she died in June 1691.

He married Mary Taylor, also of Flagg, in Bakewell on 23rd September 1700 ⁽²⁾. Their first child, Elizabeth, was born in late 1702 ⁽³⁾, followed by George in 1705 ⁽⁴⁾, Francis in 1708 ⁽⁵⁾ and Richard in 1711 ⁽⁶⁾. Their daughter Elizabeth died in November 1712 ⁽⁷⁾.

Around the end of 1712 Solomon inheritted five pounds from the estate of his father who had died at the the end of 1710 ⁽²⁴⁾.

His next child was Anne born in 1713 ⁽⁸⁾, then Mary in 1716 ⁽⁹⁾, Solomon in 1719 ⁽¹⁰⁾, Matthew in 1722 ⁽¹¹⁾, and finally Hannah in 1726 ⁽¹²⁾.

Solomon lived in Flagg all his life ⁽¹³⁾, until he died there shortly before being buried in Chelmorton on 20th February 1733 ⁽¹⁴⁾. His wife survived him by 11 years ⁽¹⁵⁾.

• Elizabeth was born in late 1702 ⁽³⁾ and died in late 1712 ⁽⁷⁾.
• George was born around June 1705 ⁽⁴⁾. He married Esther Platts, also of Flagg on 8th May 1733 ⁽¹⁶⁾. No details of any children have been found. Esther died in 1750 ⁽¹⁷⁾, and George in 1767 ⁽¹⁸⁾.
• Francis was born around the summer of 1708 ⁽⁵⁾. Nothing more is known of him.
• Richard was born in Flagg in the spring of 1711 ⁽⁶⁾. He married Elizabeth Naylor in Peak Forest on 19th August 1734 ⁽¹⁹⁾, and they settled in Foolow, where they had at least two children, Elizabeth and William.
• Anne was born in Flagg in the Autumn of 1713 ⁽⁸⁾. She married Joseph Eyre of Chelmorton in 1735 ⁽²⁰⁾, and had at least one child, Anne, around New Year 1740 ⁽²¹⁾.
• Mary was born in Flagg in 1716 ⁽⁹⁾. She is probably ⁽²²⁾ the Mary Mycocke who married John Farmer of Flagg in 1738 ⁽²³⁾.

• Hannah was born in Flagg in the first half of 1726 ⁽¹²⁾. She married WIlliam Redfearn in 1750 in Monyash. Nothing more is known of her.

13. He lived there at the time of his marriage ⁽²⁾, and all the baptism records for his children (which show a residence) also place him in Flagg.

22. Without further investigation it is impossible to say for certain whether this was her or another Mary Mycock, daughter of Matthew Mycock, who was also born in Flagg about 10 months earlier. However the Mary daughter of Matthew was married to a Mr Walker by 1745.
