| Wife | Ann |
| Children | Robert, Samuel, William, Mary |
Very little is known of William so far. His birth/baptism has not been traced, nor has his marriage. The first record is that of his son Robert's burial on 18th October 1702 in Youlgreave (1). This record also gives his wife's name as Ann. It states that William and Ann are "of Youlgreave", and while this probably means Youlgreave itself (as other entries are more specific) it may mean within the parish of Youlgreave.
By the time of their next son Samuel's baptism in December 1703 (2), the register specifically states they were from Conksbury, about a mile north of Youlgreave itself, but still in that parish. They were still there in 1707 when their son William was baptised (3). However by the end of 1712 when their daughter Mary was buried (4), they had moved about about a mile further north again to Over Haddon, which at that time lay in Bakewell parish.
Bakewell parish register records two burials for a William Allen of Over Haddon, in 1724 (5) and 1729 (6). Whilst these are almost certainly "this" William and his son, it is not clear which is which. Until and unless further evidence comes to light, I have assumed that the father died before the son.
