Joseph Redfearn

1744 - 1779

Joseph was born in Abney, the eldest son of Joseph and Sarah, and baptised at St Peter's Hope, on 20th October 1744 ⁽¹⁾. His younger brother Samuel was born two years later ⁽²⁾.

He married Hannah Eyre on 19th May 1772 ⁽³⁾, and their first child Mary was born the following year ⁽⁴⁾. Their only son Joseph was born in 1775 ⁽⁵⁾, and their youngest daughter Ann in 1778 ⁽⁶⁾.

He died the following year aged just 34 ⁽⁷⁾. His wife went on to remarry and survive him by 56 years! ⁽⁸⁾

• Mary was born in Abney in 1773. She married Thomas Jeffery in 1790 and they lived in Bradwell, where they had twelve children - Thomas, William, Samuel, Elizabeth, Ann, Hannah, Joshua, Mary, William, Sarah, Hannah and Richard. Mary died in Bradwell in 1855, aged 82.
• Joseph was born in Abney in 1775. He married a woman named Mary, and they had 8 children - Hannah, Francis Eyre, Rachael, Harriet, Joseph, Anne, Elias and Ellen. Later on he gave up farming and they left Abney and moved to Bradshaw Edge, then Brinnington in Cheshire, where was an innkeeper. He died aged 81, in 1857

   (Note that the date is given as "2", but it appears in the register between entries dated "5" and "17". It may be correct, or it could possibly be a date between those two - perhaps a "1" is missing from "12"?)
