1837 - 1901
| Father | Thomas Ashmore |
| Mother | Ellen Hatfield |
| Husband | Joseph Swindell |
| Children | John Thomas, Mary Ellen, Samuel, Emma, Elizabeth, William, Henry, Hannah, Advent |
Hannah was born in Monyash in the spring of 1837 (1), the third child of Thomas & Ellen. She had two older sisters, Mary and Eliza. (3). A younger sister, Harriet, was born about 2 years later (4), but she died an infant (5). Another sister, Elizabeth, was born in 1841 (6), but then her sister Eliza died a couple of years later (8). Her only brother, William, was born at the end of 1843 (9), then finally another sister, Maria, in 1846 (10).
Her father was a lead miner at the Magpie Mine in Sheldon, and sometime in the mid-late 1840s, the family moved into a house on the site of the mine itself, probably as the result of a promotion for her father (3)(11). Her mother died in 1858 (12), and by 1861 Hannah had moved to Millers Dale, where she lived on Joseph Mower's farm, working as a dairy maid (13).
By the time of her marriage she was living in Ashford. She married Joseph Swindell, a wheel-wright from Tideswell, on October 26th 1863 in Bakewell (14), and they set up home in Tideswell. Their eldest son, John Thomas, was born the following September (15), followed by eldest daughter, Mary Ellen, in the spring of 1866 (16). They had another son, Samuel, in 1868 (17), then a daughter Emma in 1869 (18). By the census of 1871 (19), she, Joseph, and the four children, are seen to be living at Crow Holt in Tideswell. Just a few weeks later, their next daughter, Elizabeth, was born (20), followed by son William the following year (21). Their daughter Elizabeth died, aged just 5, in June 1876 (22). About a year later, they had a son Henry (23), then their youngest daughter Hannah was born in 1879 (24). Finally their youngest son, Advent, was born in 1871 (26).
The summer of 1884 was not a happy one for Hannah. Her son Samuel died in June (27), followed by her father died in July (28) (leaving her an equal share of his estate (29)), then her son John Thomas in September (30).
Her daughter Mary Ellen got married in 1888 (31), but she didn't go far, as she and her new husband John Thomas Mosely were living next door at the time of the 1891 census (32).
Hannah's son, William, died in 1898 (33), followed by her husband, Joseph, in 1899 (34), thus by the census of 1901 only sons Henry and Advent, and daughter Hannah, were left living with her (35). Hannah herself died just a few months later on 7th July (36).Brief details of her children:
