Michael Oldfield

1645 - 1672

Michael was born in Taddington in 1645, the son of George and Margaret, and baptised there on 2nd August ⁽¹⁾. He had an older brother Adam, and an older sister Ellin ⁽²⁾. A sister Dorothy was born in 1647 ⁽³⁾, followed by a brother Richard in 1649 ⁽⁴⁾. Then came four more sisters - Margaret when he was 6 ⁽⁵⁾, Maria when he was 8 ⁽⁶⁾, Jane when he was 10 ⁽⁷⁾, and finally Anne when he was 13 ⁽⁸⁾. His brother Richard died when he was 15 ⁽⁹⁾.

He married Elizabeth Bateman on 5th November 1667 ⁽¹⁰⁾. They had a son just a few months later, but he died an infant - before he could even be baptised ⁽¹¹⁾. Their son John was born at the end of 1669 (or in the first couple of days of 1670) ⁽¹²⁾, followed by Richard in the spring of 1672 ⁽¹³⁾.

Michael died a few months later, aged just 27. He was buried at St Michael's in Taddington on 24th November 1672 ⁽¹⁴⁾.

• An unnamed son was born in 1668, but he died before he could even be baptised
• John was born at the turn of 1669-1670 in Taddington. He died at age 11.

The Taddington PR entries above, from the transcript, are very hard to read/confirm on the microfilm of the registers, and the Bishop's Transcripts aren't extant early enough, so these entries will have to be confirmed with the original.
